音楽制作の世界に身を置く筆者が、デジタル・オーディオ・ワークステーション（DAW）を使用してきた歴史を紐解くと、その中で最も長きにわたり愛用してきたのがAbleton Liveである。しかしながら、音楽の創造という営為において、ジャンルの多様性に応じた柔軟な対応が求められる昨今、Studio Oneという強力な助っ人を得て、状況に応じた使い分けを心掛けている次第である。
時として、Ableton Liveにて骨格を形作った楽曲を、Studio Oneの土俵に移し、精緻なミキシングを施すという手法も、筆者の創作活動における常套手段の一つとなっている。このように、筆者の音楽制作の過程において欠くべからざる存在と化したStudio Oneの最新版、Studio One 7が現在セール中という千載一遇の好機が到来している。この機に乗じて、かねてより関心を寄せておられた方々におかれては、一度その真価をお確かめいただくのも一興かと思われる。
つい先刻、購入とインストールの手続きを滞りなく完了し、今まさに新機能の探究に着手せんとしているところである。個人的な見解を申し上げれば、ランチャー機能とステム分割機能に対する期待感が殊の外高まっている。ランチャー機能はループやパターンを効率的に管理し、リアルタイムでアレンジを試行できる点が魅力である。また、AIベースのステム分割はオーディオファイルをボーカルやドラムなどに分離できるため、リミックスやインストバージョン作成が容易になる。加えて、ノート・エディターにImpactが統合されたことにより、操作性の向上が見込まれ、創作活動により一層の拍車がかかることだろう。
蛇足ながら、本年初頭にセールの機を捉えてProToolsを入手した。その洗練された職人の工具さながらの操作性は、使用者の創作意欲を大いに刺激するものである。しかしながら、ショートカットの習得に相当の時間を要するなど、習熟に一朝一夕ではいかない側面も否めない。加えてProToolsはレコーディングやミキシングに重きを置いた設計となっており、高品質なオーディオエンジンや豊富なオートメーション機能などが特徴である。しかし楽曲制作全般を主眼とする筆者としては、その柔軟性と直感的な操作性から結局Studio Oneに軍配が上がってしまうという結論である。
このように、DAWの選択は、まさに千差万別、十人十色と言えよう。各々の制作スタイルや目的に応じて、最適なツールを見出すことが肝要である。Studio One 7の登場により、音楽制作の世界にまた新たな風が吹き込まれることを、筆者としても大いに期待しているところである。

Meanwhile, the AI-based stem separation feature can dissect audio files into components like vocals and drums, streamlining the process of creating remixes or instrumental versions. Additionally, the integration of Impact into the Note Editor is expected to enhance usability, potentially catalyzing the creative process even further.As a side note, I acquired Pro Tools during a sale earlier this year. Its refined, artisanal tool-like interface is indeed inspiring to users. However, it demands considerable time to master its numerous shortcuts, and the learning curve is steep. Pro Tools is renowned for its emphasis on recording and mixing, boasting a high-quality audio engine and extensive automation features. Yet, as someone primarily focused on overall music production, I find myself gravitating back to Studio One for its versatility and intuitive operation.The choice of DAW is truly a matter of personal preference, varying greatly from one producer to another. It’s crucial to find the tool that best aligns with your production style and objectives. With the arrival of Studio One 7, I’m eagerly anticipating the fresh perspectives and possibilities it will bring to the realm of music production.
